Chocolate Mousse

Brief Description

A rich and creamy chocolate mousse that is light and airy, perfect for an elegant dessert.

Ingredients

  • 6 oz semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 3 large eggs, separated
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Whipped cream and chocolate shavings for garnish (optional)

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Melt the chocolate and butter together in a heatproof bowl set over a pot of simmering water. Stir until smooth, then remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  2. In a separate bowl, beat the egg yolks and granulated sugar until thick and pale. Gradually add the melted chocolate mixture and vanilla extract, mixing until combined.
  3. In another bowl, beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form. Gently fold the egg whites into the chocolate mixture.
  4. In a separate bowl, beat the heavy cream until soft peaks form. Gently fold the whipped cream into the chocolate mixture until no streaks remain.
  5. Spoon the mousse into individual serving dishes and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or until set.
  6. Garnish with whipped cream and chocolate shavings before serving, if desired.
