Classic Apple Pie

Brief Description

A traditional apple pie with a flaky crust and a filling of sweet and tart apples, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

For the crust:

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cubed
  • 1/4 to 1/2 cup ice water

For the filling:

  • 6 cups thinly sliced apples (such as Granny Smith)
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).

For the crust:

2. In a large bowl, mix the flour and salt. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

3. Gradually add ice water, mixing just until the dough comes together. Divide the dough in half, shape into discs, wrap in plastic, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.

For the filling:

4. In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and flour. Toss to coat the apples evenly.

5. Roll out one disc of dough on a floured surface to fit a 9-inch pie dish. Transfer to the pie dish and trim the edges.

6. Fill the crust with the apple mixture.

7. Roll out the second disc of dough and place it over the filling. Trim and crimp the edges to seal.

8. Cut slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.

9. Bake for 45-50 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly. Cover the edges with foil if they brown too quickly. 10. Cool on a wire rack before serving.
